California-based Sandia Labs, a Lockheed Martin company, has developed a lightweight polyurethane foam-core (TufFoam) for surfboards derived from a product they currently use as protective casing for electronics in nuclear warheads. TufFoam boards are expected this year with revenue feeding into new research efforts.
